Proposed acquisition would combine more than 15,000 acres of production capacity and strengthen access to premium apple and cherry varieties, while maintaining key marketing and supply partnerships
Legendary Fruit Company has signed a letter of intent to acquire substantially all assets of Brewster Heights Packing & Orchards (BHPO), operating as Gebbers Farms, through a court-supervised sale process, marking a major consolidation in the U.S. tree fruit sector.
The proposed transaction would unite two prominent Washington State fruit growers and packers, creating a combined operation with access to more than 15,000 acres of agricultural land and annual production of approximately 12 million boxes of apples and 4.5 million boxes of cherries.
The acquisition would also provide Legendary Fruit Company with exclusive production and packaging rights for several premium apple varieties, including SugarBee, Rockit, Lucy Rose, and Lucy Glo, further strengthening its position in the high-value fresh fruit segment.
“The Gebbers name is the preeminent name in Northern Washington for apples, pears and cherries. We have known and worked with the team there for many years—not only as respected operators in our industry, but as neighbors who share the same commitment to excellence that guides our own business,” said Steve Clement, Chief Executive Officer of Legendary Fruit Company.
“This agreement strengthens our ability to bring consumer-favorite apple and cherry varieties to market, including SugarBee apples. With our partnership in the North, we will continue the legacy of building strong relationships with growers, retailers, packaging partners and the communities we call home,” he added.
The combined entity is expected to emerge as one of North America’s largest fruit producers, enhancing scale across growing, packing and distribution operations while expanding access to premium branded fruit varieties.
Legendary Fruit Company also confirmed that existing commercial partnerships will remain intact following the completion of the transaction. Fruit packed at BHPO will continue to supply Chelan Fresh, while CMI Orchards will retain its role as a strategic marketing partner for fruit originating from Legendary’s existing operations outside the Gebbers acquisition.
“The fruit packed at BHPO will continue to supply Chelan Fresh. At the same time, CMI Orchards will remain a key strategic marketing partner for Legendary Fruit Company and will continue to market all fruit from Legendary’s existing operations outside of the Gebbers acquisition, with no changes to those current programs and customer relationships,” Clement said.
Based in Wapato and Chelan, Washington, Legendary Fruit Company focuses on premium-quality apple and cherry production. The proposed acquisition reflects growing consolidation within the specialty fruit industry as producers seek greater scale, stronger varietal portfolios and enhanced market reach amid evolving consumer demand for branded fresh produce.
