The new Agro Bayer Store extends solutions in the third largest agribusiness hub in Rio Verde-GO in the Brazilian state of Goiás

Bayer has unveiled its first-ever physical store pilot project in Rio Verde (GO), Brazil. The 700 m² space "Agro Bayer Store" is Bayer's first and only physical store. The Store is part of the distribution strategy of the company's agricultural division. It will act as an additional channel to ensure farmers in the region have access to seed and biotechnology solutions, crop protection, and digital tools.

"Bayer has been present in Brazil for 126 years and we reinforced our strategy of focusing on the farmer, constantly seeking proximity to him to ensure that all Brazilian farmers have access to our solutions, providing more productivity and profitability to rural producers", explains the marketing director for Bayer in Brazil, Tiago Santos.

The store will act as a catalyst with current partners in the region, strengthening demand generation, presence in the field, generating closer proximity and connection with the farmer, according to the director.

According to the marketing director, the store itself will function as a large laboratory, making it possible to establish even closer ties with farmers. "We will learn more about the reality of our retail partners, thus modeling new solutions for the farmer and network of strategic partners, including distributors and cooperatives", emphasized Santos.

"We are experiencing a major transformation in the market. Farmers are increasingly demanding and in recent years we have experienced an accelerated transformation in market access with the entry of new players seeking consolidation", says Santos. "In some regions this process was more accelerated, causing ruptures in the reciprocity of consolidated partnerships between distributors and Bayer".

Aims to advance biodevice business with regional training and demonstration centers

Zoetis is raising customer service in Asia Pacific with a new Biodevice Learning Center in Pathumthani, Thailand. This is the company’s first in the region and will provide regular training and routine device demonstrations for customers of the Embrex line of in-ovo vaccination biodevices.

“We have observed growing demand for biodevice equipment for in-ovo vaccination and service among hatcheries throughout Southeast and South Asia. We have made it a priority to contribute to the learning and advancement of our biodevice colleagues,” said Arkhom Cheewakriengkrai, Vice President of Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Giving a touch-and-feel experience with the Embrex machine would help customers consider adopting the technology to learn more about its features and benefits.

"Embrex BioDevices inject more than 20 billion eggs in over 40 countries annually and the number keeps growing. We are pleased to provide more impactful learning opportunities to our field service colleagues on Embrex in-ovo vaccination technology with the learning center in the region. In-person and hands-on training not only improves our colleagues’ skills and capability and their comprehensive understanding of the device, but it also reinforces our commitment to providing exceptional service to our customers,” revealed Curtis Shuey, Vice President of Global BioDevices.

The next generation of the Inovoject system was launched by Zoetis in 2018, the Inovoject NXT, which utilizes a patented loop-wire design and Haylo technology for gentle egg handling, Embrex Accusight technology to identify eggs, and Embrex Precixion technology to maximize vaccination accuracy.

Under I-CLEAN project Syngenta invests Rs 3.3 cr ($24.5 million) to expand its state-of-art market facility over 51020 sq feet, in Southern Indian state Telangana, Wanaparthy (Dst)

Global Agriculture solution company, Syngenta is investing Rs 3.3 crore ($24.5 million) to build a state-of-art market spread over 51020 sq feet, in Southern Indian state, Telangana, Wanaparthy (Dst). Upon completion, the facility will be handed over to the Agriculture Marketing Board for operation and maintenance. This market will cater to over 20,000 farmers by providing them a safe place to do their business and consumers of over 30 villages and urban areas around this district headquarter.

Apart from Telangana, 24 such I-CLEAN projects are running in Bihar (18), Uttar Pradesh (02), Karnataka (04) catering to the needs of rural farmers.

On his current 3 day visit to India Syngenta’s Global CEO J Erik Fyrwald said “Syngenta has strengthened its ties with India, the world's 5th largest economy. Syngenta will continue to invest itself in the future of the country's agriculture. We are dedicating one of the country's biggest rural wayside markets in Wanaparthy district, Telangana, built under Syngenta’s flagship CSR I-CLEAN (Inculcating Cleanliness, Learning, Education, Awareness and New Habits) program”.

Present in the country for 94 years now, India has always been at the core of our focus for its sheer size, diversity and potential - 40% of the workforce in the country is employed in agriculture. We have consistently worked on addressing challenges facing Indian agriculture.

“Accordingly, our R&D has been geared to providing technology to the farming community for enhancing productivity and also reducing input costs for better returns on investment. We invest and innovate to transform the way crops are grown and protected to bring about positive, lasting change in agriculture. Our ambition is to be the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture, providing leading seeds and crop protection innovations and digital solutions to enhance the prosperity of farmers, wherever they are,” Fyrwald added.

One of the unique features of this marketplace is that it provides exclusive facilities for women farmers including a day care facility with a baby feeding room. This will ensure that women farmers can focus on their business without being concerned about leaving their children at home.

Susheel Kumar, MD & Country Head, Syngenta India said, “The I-CLEAN project has been a remarkable success. We are glad to be able to contribute to the rural prosperity of Telangana, which has one of the highest rates of agriculture growth at 7.8%. With a slew of impressive programs including Rythu Bandhu Scheme, Mission Bhagiratha and Drone Certification, the state has made rapid strides and it gives us joy to become partners in this journey.”

Syngenta’s I-CLEAN program has brought about significant transformation. According to a social-economic impact assessment, the income of farmers who sell their produce at I-CLEAN markets have gone up by 49% as they are able to spend more time in markets; the improved infrastructure sees increased daily footfall. The facilities like safe drinking water, solar lights and toilets have improved the livelihood opportunities of local farming communities by about 40%.

Syngenta also ensures that farmers are trained in best crop protection practices, health and hygiene practices. “The marketplace has multiple awareness messages highlighting the importance of proper crop protection practices, tips of health and hygiene. As an agri input company, we take stewardship very seriously and educate our farmers on various aspects of safety on a continuous basis,” added Dr KC Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Syngenta India.

EBRD and FAO officially launched the new $5.5 million package of technical assistance to improve food security in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia -as well as the West Bank and Gaza.

With the launch of a new technical assistance package for several Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) marked 25 years of joint efforts towards more sustainable agrifood systems.

To celebrate the occasion, Odile Renaud-Basso, ERBD President, met with QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General at the FAO headquarters in Rome, where they planted an olive tree as a symbol of the long-term cooperation between both organizations.

The two heads of institutions also officially launched the new $5.5 million package of technical assistance to improve food security in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia -as well as the West Bank and Gaza.

The joint initiative, which will kick off in January, is a timely response to the crisis in grain markets, which has made global food security more precarious.

The initiative will help governments revisit some of their agrifood policies, for example, by improving long-term resilience of the grain value chain.

The package supports public and private investments in upgrading national grain import systems, including the development of more efficient procurement and better storage infrastructures.

Finally, the initiative will also help countries re-assess their own food production potential, looking at climate and environmental constraints and maximizing the value of local production, including through trade diversification.

This new technical assistance package complements the EBRD’s individual financing for these countries. Tunisia, for instance, has received a $150.5 million loan to buy cereals in the face of the global markets’ crisis.

“Transforming agrifood systems calls for a range of technical solutions, enabling policies and investment. Together with the EBRD and other partners, FAO has been supporting Members to move forward on these three fronts simultaneously to ensure the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life for all - leaving no one behind,” underscored General Qu FAO Director.

“FAO looks forward to stepping up its 25-year partnership with the EBRD for even stronger collaboration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he added.

“We are proud of the work done together with FAO in the past 25 years and we will continue to strengthen our cooperation in the foreseeable future,” said Renaud-Basso President EBRD.

“Boosting food security is one of the EBRD’s priorities and, together with FAO, we are able to put our joint expertise in finance and technical solutions to the benefit of the regions where we both operate. The new technical assistance programme in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean is the latest example,” she added.

FAO and EBRD started their cooperation in 1997, which has paved the way for 200 joint technical assistance projects worth $60 million.

The joint efforts have been focusing on supporting the development of sustainable agrifood value chains in Eastern and Central Europe, Central Asia, and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, combining FAO’s technical and policy facilitation skills with EBRD’s investment capacity and expertise.

The EBRD President and the FAO Director-General reaffirmed their commitment to their long-term cooperation efforts, noting that transforming agrifood systems typically requires a combination of financing and technical solutions that both their institutions can provide together, building on their comparative strengths.

Recently the EBRD and FAO have worked together on analysing and understanding the ongoing global food security challenges and their impact on specific countries and regions. The two institutions also organised several events to promote global dialogue on food security, including a panel at the EBRD’s 2022 Annual Meeting, a joint event with the World Trade Organisation and a panel at COP27 in Egypt.
