Northlight Wine Collective has acquired Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines, marking the first winery acquisition for the investment platform as it builds a long-term portfolio of premium Canadian wine businesses.

The transaction brings together two established British Columbia wine brands under Northlight, a company founded in 2024 to acquire, invest in and grow premium wineries navigating succession and generational transition. The deal includes the operating companies behind both brands, including their winery operations, vineyards, brands and related business assets.

Meyer Family Vineyards, founded in 2006 by Jak Meyer and Janice Stevens-Meyer, has built its reputation around small-lot Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produced with a Burgundian philosophy using estate vineyards and selected sites across British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. The winery was named a Top 2 Winery at the 2024 National Wine Awards of Canada.

The Meyer family expanded its wine portfolio in 2018 with the launch of Mayhem Wines, developed in partnership with Terry Meyer Stone and Andrew Stone. The brand offers a broader range of varieties and styles sourced from vineyard sites across the region.

For Northlight, the acquisition is as much about a broader industry opportunity as it is about adding two brands to its portfolio. Founder- and family-led wineries across Canada are increasingly confronting succession planning while navigating changing market conditions, creating an opening for long-term investors capable of providing capital and strategic support without fundamentally altering the identity of established businesses.

“Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines have earned the trust of customers through exceptional wines, disciplined craftsmanship and a clear sense of identity,” said José R. Salgado, Founder and CEO of Northlight Wine Collective. “Jak and Janice, together with Terry and Andrew, have built two remarkable businesses, and we are honored to continue their legacy while investing in the next chapter of growth.”

The acquisition reflects Northlight’s strategy of positioning itself as a succession partner for premium wineries with established brands, loyal customer relationships and long-term growth potential. The company intends to preserve the heritage and market identity of the businesses it acquires while providing investment and operational support for their next phase.

For the Meyer and Stone families, finding the right long-term owner was central to the decision.

“From the beginning, our goal was to build wineries that reflected this remarkable region and the people who make it so special,” said Jak Meyer, Co-Founder of Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines. “As we looked toward succession, we wanted to find an owner who respected what we had built and shared our long-term vision. We believe Northlight is the right partner to carry these wineries forward while preserving the character that has always defined them.”

The existing winery team, including winemaker Chris Carson, will continue in their current roles, while Jak and Janice will remain involved during a planned transition period.

The deal also signals the emergence of a more structured investment model for Canada’s premium wine sector. Northlight was created specifically to pursue opportunities among established wineries whose founders are considering succession but may be seeking an alternative to a conventional sale that could result in a change in brand identity or operating philosophy.

“Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines set the standard for the kind of wineries Northlight was created to acquire,” Salgado said. “They have set a high bar through remarkable wines, enduring brands and decades of uncompromising quality.”

With its first acquisition completed, Northlight is positioning itself to pursue further partnerships with founder-built Canadian wineries that combine distinctive brands, strong customer relationships and proven growth potential.

The acquisition of Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines gives the young investment platform an established foundation in British Columbia’s premium wine industry—and a starting point for a broader strategy built around one of the sector’s defining challenges: who will take the next generation of founder-built wineries forward.
