Corteva’s Vylor unveils corn pipeline with new yield and insect-control technologies

Corteva has unveiled the corn innovation pipeline of Vylor, its planned advanced seed and genetics business, ahead of the company’s scheduled separation . The portfolio is designed to reinforce Vylor’s position in the global corn seed market while giving farmers access to new technologies aimed at improving yields, protecting crops and increasing production returns.

At the centre of the pipeline is what the company describes as the industry’s first trait specifically developed to improve both yield and yield stability. Field trials across the Americas showed corn carrying the trait delivering an average gain of three bushels per acre, with increases reaching as much as 10 bushels per acre. Vylor expects the technology to become a key component of its next generation of corn products.

The company estimates that its corn portfolio could generate more than $2 billion in additional revenue by 2035, including licensing income. Seven new corn technology platforms are planned through 2035, and together they are expected to cover about 90 per cent of Vylor’s corn business.

The first major launches are scheduled for Latin America in 2028. Vylor plans to introduce Abranvo technology, combining fall armyworm protection through two new modes of action with the yield and yield-stability trait and several herbicide-tolerance options. A subsequent insect-control platform will add two further proprietary modes of action to strengthen protection against fall armyworm.

The innovation programme is expected to reach North America in 2029, when Vylor plans to introduce its next-generation above-ground insect-control technology alongside the yield and yield-stability trait.

Disease management is another major part of the pipeline. Vylor plans to commercialise its multi-disease-resistant corn technology, which the company says is an industry first and was developed using gene-editing technology. The platform is designed to address four major diseases: Northern Corn Leaf Blight, Grey Leafspot, Southern Rust and Anthracnose Stalk Rot.

The company also plans to introduce reduced-stature corn using its next-generation technology platforms, with products targeted at segments where shorter plants can provide the greatest value to growers.

Below-ground insect protection is set for another technology shift in 2031. Vylor expects to launch a corn rootworm product in North America featuring two new non-Bt modes of action, including a plant-based technology. The company sees the platform as a potential new approach to managing one of the most persistent insect threats to corn production.

The pipeline reflects a broader strategy built around three priorities: developing technologies that deliver measurable value to farmers, using elite germplasm to strengthen brands and expand licensing opportunities, and building proprietary biotechnology and gene-editing platforms that can shift Vylor from a technology licensee to a licensor.

The company’s planned portfolio builds on more than a century of corn breeding and genetics expertise. By combining that breeding base with new biotech, gene-editing and crop-protection technologies, Vylor aims to offer farmers a broader set of options across major corn-growing regions while creating additional revenue through direct product sales and licensing.
