Bayer has launched MagicTrap 2 in the United Kingdom, introducing the latest generation of its AI-enabled digital pest monitoring system for oilseed rape. The upgraded solution features enhanced imaging, improved connectivity and greater ease of use, helping growers monitor pest populations remotely and make faster, data-driven crop protection decisions.
Building on the original MagicTrap platform, the new device incorporates several hardware enhancements designed to improve monitoring accuracy and field performance. Bayer said MagicTrap 2 combines a higher-resolution camera with autofocus technology to capture sharper images, while an integrated flash enables reliable image capture under low-light conditions, supporting more consistent automated pest analysis.
MagicTrap is Bayer's fully automated digital yellow water trap for oilseed rape pests. The system captures field images and analyses them automatically before delivering results through the MagicScout smartphone application. It identifies, categorises and quantifies a broad range of economically important pests, including flea beetles, pollen beetles and weevils, while distinguishing target pests from beneficial and non-target insects.
The latest version also introduces stronger connectivity through an upgraded antenna, improving data transmission from the field. Updated LED indicators displaying battery status and signal strength directly on the device further simplify installation, routine monitoring and in-field maintenance.
The launch forms part of Bayer's broader strategy to expand AI-driven digital agriculture solutions that enhance precision crop protection and improve operational efficiency for growers. By enabling continuous remote monitoring of pest pressure, MagicTrap 2 supports more timely intervention decisions while reducing the need for frequent manual field inspections.
Following its commercial introduction in Germany and Austria, MagicTrap 2 is now available in the United Kingdom. Bayer plans to expand deployment across 14 additional European markets by 2027, further strengthening its portfolio of digital farming technologies across the region.
