Chinese agrochemical company Limin Group Co., Ltd. is planning to invest RMB 200 million in a synthetic biology research and manufacturing project in Inner Mongolia as part of its efforts to expand its biological crop protection portfolio.

The project, undertaken by its wholly owned subsidiary Inner Mongolia New Veyong Bio-Chemical Co., Ltd., has received an investment filing notice from the Dalad Banner Development and Reform Commission.

The proposed investment will cover the establishment of a synthetic biology research and development centre, a manufacturing facility for biological products and supporting infrastructure. According to the company's announcement, the facility is designed to achieve an annual production capacity of 100 tonnes of spinetoram biological products and one tonne of pyripyropene A biological products upon completion.

The project will focus on developing biological pesticide manufacturing capabilities by integrating research, fermentation technologies and industrial production. Spinetoram is a fermentation-derived insecticide belonging to the spinosyn class, while pyripyropene A is a microbial-derived compound with potential applications in insecticide development.

Limin Group stated that the investment forms part of its technology research and development strategy under China's 15th Five-Year Plan. The company aims to strengthen its biological technology capabilities, develop new product technologies and expand its portfolio of biological crop protection solutions.

The planned facility is also expected to support the company's efforts to improve its manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its position in the biological pesticide sector.

While the project has completed the investment filing process, it remains subject to environmental assessments and other necessary administrative approvals before implementation.
