Caribbean Chemicals and Agencies Limited (CCAL), a major agricultural inputs distributor in the Caribbean, has expanded its presence in the Dominican Republic through a strategic investment in Productos y Servicios Agropecuarios Dominicanos E.I.R.L. (ProSADom), strengthening its reach in a market where export-oriented agriculture is creating demand for specialised crop solutions.
The transaction was executed through Caribbean Chemicals DR Limited (CCDR), CCAL’s wholly owned local subsidiary. It brings together CCAL’s regional distribution network and product portfolio with ProSADom’s established farmer relationships and technical capabilities in Mao, Valverde Province.
ProSADom supplies agricultural inputs and agronomic services to banana, rice and vegetable growers, with a particular focus on the Dominican Republic’s organic banana export industry. The investment is expected to expand farmers’ access to crop-protection solutions, specialty fertilisers, organic crop nutrition and on-farm advisory services. “This investment marks a pivotal growth milestone for our Group,” said Joe Pires, Chairman of CCAL. He noted that combining the distributor’s regional scale and product access with ProSADom’s local expertise would strengthen its ability to serve Dominican Republic farmers.
Focus on organic banana production
Organic bananas are a key focus of the expanded operation. Producers must balance productivity and crop quality with the requirements of organic production systems and export markets. The combined business plans to strengthen agronomic support and improve access to inputs suited to growers’ requirements.
The partnership will consolidate product portfolios, technical expertise and distribution channels, enabling field agronomists to provide more integrated crop-management solutions. According to Fabio Visón, General Manager of Caribbean Chemicals DR, the expanded capabilities will support more targeted technical assistance for organic banana growers, with the aim of improving productivity and export quality.
The operation will also serve rice and vegetable farmers, broadening access to agricultural inputs and advisory services across the country’s farming sector. Erison Henríquez Espinal, CEO of ProSADom, said the partnership would expand the company’s service offering while preserving the localised support on which its farming customers rely.
Regional distribution meets local expertise
Founded in 1966, CCAL operates across Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and the Dominican Republic. The company employs more than 200 people, including a field network of over 80 professional agronomists, and supplies agricultural inputs and advisory services across the Caribbean.
The ProSADom investment extends this regional model by combining distribution scale with an established local presence. Graham Dunkley, Managing Director of Caribbean Chemicals Jamaica, who oversees the Dominican Republic operations, said the priority would be to build on ProSADom’s existing relationships while expanding product availability and deploying additional technical expertise.
The partnership’s longer-term value will depend on its ability to translate broader input access and stronger agronomic support into measurable improvements in farm productivity, crop quality and market competitiveness. For the Dominican Republic’s export-oriented growers, the immediate proposition is a more integrated source of agricultural inputs and field-level expertise tailored to local production needs.
