Vietnam and China have launched two joint agricultural research initiatives aimed at strengthening academic collaboration, advancing rural development research and expanding cross-border cooperation in agricultural education and innovation.
The programs—Research on China’s Rural Transformation and National and Regional Studies—were formally introduced following a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) and the College of International Development and Global Agriculture (CIDGA) at China Agricultural University.
The launch marks a significant step in the growing partnership between the two institutions, with both sides seeking to enhance research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and knowledge sharing on rural development, agricultural modernization and digital transformation.
University leaders described the initiatives as a platform for deeper scientific cooperation, providing researchers, academics and students with opportunities to undertake joint studies, exchange expertise and build international research networks. The programs are expected to support collaborative work in areas such as sustainable agriculture, rural revitalization and emerging agricultural technologies.
Representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam highlighted the importance of educational and scientific cooperation in strengthening bilateral ties, expressing optimism that the partnership would generate tangible outcomes in talent development, field-based research and agricultural innovation.
A key area of focus will be the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in agriculture, reflecting growing interest from both countries in leveraging advanced technologies to improve productivity, sustainability and rural economic development.
Officials from both universities said the programs are designed to serve as long-term platforms for academic exchange and collaborative research, while contributing to broader efforts to modernize agriculture and support rural communities in both countries.
The initiative underscores the increasing role of international academic partnerships in addressing shared agricultural challenges and fostering innovation-driven growth across Asia’s agricultural sector.
