The Singapore Government has launched an industry guide to setting up a sea-based farm in Singapore. Which can help to boost local food production and contribute to Singapore’s ‘30 by 30’ goal. Singapore’s ‘30 by 30’ goal is to build the agri-food industry’s capability and capacity to sustainably produce 30 per cent of our nutritional needs by 2030.
According to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the Industry guide provides farmers with an overview of the procedures and regulatory requirements involved in setting up a sea-based farm in Singapore.
SFA mentioned in the press release, farms play an important role in strengthening food security as local production helps mitigate the impact of supply disruptions from import sources, an increasing concern amid climate change. With the upcoming transformation of local sea-based farms, the new industry guide is timely to help prospective and current sea-based farmers understand and navigate the regulatory requirements to set up a sea-based farm.
The industry guide includes Developed in consultation with the Regulations Workgroup (RWG) agencies, with inputs from the Singapore Agro-Food Enterprises Federation Limited (SAFEF). An overview of the government agencies involved in the approval process and their contacts. This informs farmers of the relevant agencies they can contact for various inquiries. Details of the key regulatory requirements and processes in setting up a sea-based farm, including information on the documents required, fees and timelines in the regulatory approval process. This will help the sea-based farmers better manage their project schedules, resources and finances.
