Vietnam has joined the tripartite cooperation with FAO, Japan, and South Africa to deploy many cooperation models to improvise rice, food crops and aquaculture.
FAO and Vietnam are collaborating on many cooperation activities in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. Vietnam and the FAO have been cooperating for 45 years. Recently, the FAO was one of the supporting agencies that helped host the Global Food Summit under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien and Thanawat Tiensin, Director of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine are optimistic that Vietnamese-FAO cooperation will become stronger and more efficient in the years to come.
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, hosted the International Advisory Conference to support the implementation of the Veterinary Sector Project on June 23, 2023. Animal and veterinary industries were discussed at the conference, investments were considered to develop these industries, and food security was addressed.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said “Over the past time, Vietnam’s livestock industry has maintained a good growth momentum. Vietnam advocates shifting from smallholder farming to large-scale farming, and at the same time opening the door to foreign businesses such as CP of Thailand, Japfa of Indonesia, in order to create new development momentum for the country”.
“FAO continues to work closely with the One Health Partnership to mobilize resources to contribute to the implementation of goals and tasks on the prevention of zoonotic diseases and the prevention and control of diseases. disease risk from captive breeding and illegal wildlife trade” he added.
South-South cooperation between Vietnam and other countries such as Sierra Leone, Vietnam plays a pioneering and active role in helping Sierra Leone develop its rice industry. At the request of the Government of Sierra Leone, a joint mission was conducted in February 2023 to develop a proposal for a partnership program to address Sierra Leone’s rice value chain needs, this program will be funded through the Unilateral Trust Fund (UTF).
