CCS and CCUS facilities with Pupuk Indonesia expected to support the government’s plan to achieve the 2060 NZE target.
Pupuk Indonesia has signed an MoU regarding the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to explore collaboration opportunities in the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) in PGE’s Working Area, particularly at the Arun Gas Field in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, for producing blue ammonia. KEK was selected as a location for CCS and CCUS development because the region holds significant potential as a center of economic growth in Aceh, said Pupuk Indonesia President & Director Rahmad Pribadi at the signing ceremony in Jakarta,
Pupuk Indonesia is collaborating with a Japanese company to develop hybrid green ammonia in Aceh. Rahmad revealed that his company is in negotiations to relocate the ammonia bunkering facility, originally planned for Singapore, to Aceh.
“So, not only can we produce clean ammonia, but we can also make Aceh a global trade hub. We ask for your prayers and support,” he said.
MoU stands as a concrete manifestation of Pupuk Indonesia’s support for the government’s Asta Cita vision in achieving food self-sufficiency and building a green economy, while simultaneously pursuing the 2060 Zero Emissions (NZE) target.
EMP President Director & CEO Syailendra S. Bakrie welcomed the start of explorations into a collaboration with Pupuk Indonesia for CO2 emission utilization and natural gas supply. He expressed his hope that the development of CCS and CCUS facilities with Pupuk Indonesia would support the government’s plan to achieve the 2060 NZE target.
“With the development of CCS and CCUS facilities in the PGE Working Area, we hope to support the government’s plan to achieve the Net Zero Emission target by 2060. In the first quarter of this year, the PGE Working Area has produced around 45 million cubic feet of gas per day and 1,033 barrels of oil per day. The block also operates proven & probable reserves of 159 billion cubic feet of gas and 10.8 million barrels of oil,” said Syailendra.
Edoardus Ardianto, Deputy President Director & CFO of EMP, stated that EMP Gebang Limited is committed to supporting the fertilizer industry’s raw material needs by ensuring gas supplies for Pupuk Indonesia. He emphasized that the company will accelerate production to meet Pupuk Indonesia’s crucial gas needs.
“From previous discussions, we understand that Pupuk Indonesia requires approximately 100 million cubic feet of gas per day to operate its factories. Gebang is expected to begin producing around 40 million cubic feet of gas per day in 2027. This production is expected to increase to 100 million cubic feet of gas per day by 2030. Pupuk Indonesia is one of the target markets for the gas produced by Gebang in the future,” he said.
