Cambodia’s Phka Rumduol jasmine variety has been honoured as the World’s Best Rice at the Rice Trader World Rice Conference in Phuket, Thailand. Cambodian rice has won this award fifth time. Cambodian Rice Federation’s President Song Saran made the announcement.
Phka Rumduol is one of the long-grain jasmine rice that has emerged as a top choice of international buyers and is one of the varieties exported under the Angkor Malys certification mark.
Phka Rumduol had previously won the award four times, for three consecutive years from 2012-2014, and then again in 2018 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The jasmine variety took second place three years in a row from 2015-2017.
The government of Cambodia has been promoting the country as a ‘rice basket’ and a major rice exporter. In Cambodia’s agricultural sector rice accounts for 70 per cent and around 50 per cent of the agricultural sector output. Rice production in Cambodia has significantly increased during the last 20 years.
