Strengthens cooperation in four priority projects to facilitate trade in agricultural products and marine products, and international horticulture
Japan’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sakamoto held a meeting with Tamannat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, in Bangkok and confirmed that they would proceed with cooperation on four priority projects based on the “Japan-ASEAN Green Cooperation Plan.”
In addition, the two ministers also announced plans for Yokohama (Japan) in 2027 and Korat (Thailand) in 2029. We hope for the success of the A1 International Horticultural Expo held in Nakhon Ratchasima). We urge each other to consider supporting and participating in our respective expos.
The two Ministers pledged to build resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems in the ASEAN region. The two ministers discussed agricultural cooperation, particularly resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems, construction, facilitation of trade in agricultural products and marine products, and participation in international horticultural expositions.
While emphasizing the importance of efforts by governments to The “Regional Guidelines for Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN” and the Consistent with the “Bio-Circular Green (BCG) Economic Model”
Both Ministers are committed to cooperating with and working with each other to promote and implement the above agenda. They made it clear that they would provide the necessary support from their respective positions. The two ministers will meet at a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in the Kingdom of Thailand in June 2024.
The two Ministers will promote the reduction of environmental burdens and ecological impacts, and increase the efficiency of farm management, smart tools to increase productivity, increase yields, and reduce labor hours.
The technology and innovation project is resilient and sustainable and is recognized as vitally important for agricultural and food systems.
For this reason, The following projects will be implemented on a priority basis.
① Reducing fertilizer consumption through automatic compartmentalization technology and soil diagnosis using satellite data
② Improve productivity and reduce working hours through automatic steering technology
③ Promotion of smart irrigation technology for fruit trees
④ Training of trainers to instruct crop cultivation techniques through public-private collaboration,
Establishment of circular agriculture through the use of fertilizers
The two Ministers pledged to improve the livelihoods and incomes of people working in the agriculture, fisheries and food sectors.
The 14th JTEPA (Japan-Thailand EPA Subcommittee) Meeting and the 4th HLDC (Japan-Thailand High-Technology EPA Subcommittee) Meeting Government officials from both sides encouraged further discussions at the Agricultural Cooperation Dialogue (Agricultural Cooperation Dialogue) instructed against.
In addition, in order to diversify the export destinations of Japanese marine products, we once again explained the safety of Japanese marine products, requested cooperation in Japan’s efforts to expand the sales network in Thailand, and asked for high-level cooperation. At the demonstration farm of Kubota Farm, a joint venture between Japan and Thailand, we observed cutting-edge smart agricultural technology tailored to the local agricultural environment. Uoiki, a Japanese-Thai joint venture has been aiming to expand its stores in local trade since its establishment in 2023, and grasped the current situation regarding the development of trade channels for Japanese seafood.
