The bilateral meeting inspected Plan of Action on Food Security (2026-2030)
Satvinder Singh, leader of SOM ASEAN, and YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Security Food (KPKM), met to discuss two main economic outcomes or Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) for food, agriculture, and forestry in Malaysia.
The meeting was held under the sectoral body of Ministers of Agriculture and ASEAN Forestry (AMAF) for Malaysia’s Chairmanship of the 45th AMAF and in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Johor Bahru on Aug 8th. KPKM Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Azah Hanim Ahmad and senior officers were also present in the discussion session.
The ASEAN Secretariat shared views on two Malaysian PEDs, namely the Development of Outlook on Agriculture and Forestry and the Development of a Plan of Action on Food Security (2026-2030) and discussed actions Malaysia should take to elaborate on the concept paper.
According to Deputy Minister YB of KPKM, Malaysia and ASEAN member countries place a high priority on food security in ASEAN and climate change. As part of the strategy to address this challenge, he explained that the entire supply chain must be strengthened, including increasing the production capacity of small farmers, based on the strengths and advantages of ASEAN member countries, as well as efforts to harmonize food safety inspections. Following the discussion, both parties agreed to continue working closely together on Malaysian PEDs toward food security in the ASEAN region.
