Corteva Agriscience is strengthening its position in the U.S. cottonseed market with the launch of three new PhytoGen® cottonseed varieties for the 2027 planting season, expanding a next-generation portfolio designed to deliver higher yields, improved fiber quality and stronger disease resistance across the country's major cotton-producing regions.
The latest introductions—PHY 362 W3FE, PHY 491 W3FE and PHY 207 W3FE—build on the momentum created by last year's rollout of PHY 357 W3FE and PHY 433 W3FE, reinforcing Corteva's strategy of combining advanced genetics with region-specific agronomic performance to improve grower profitability.
The expansion comes as U.S. cotton producers navigate increasingly volatile weather patterns, pest pressures and fluctuating market conditions, driving demand for varieties capable of delivering consistent yields under diverse production environments.
Leading the new portfolio is PHY 362 W3FE, an early- to mid-maturity variety developed for broad adaptability across the Cotton Belt. Designed for both irrigated and dryland production systems, the variety combines strong yield potential with premium staple length while offering built-in resistance to bacterial blight, reniform nematodes and root-knot nematodes.
PHY 491 W3FE, a mid- to full-season variety, targets growers seeking maximum yield potential in the Southeast, particularly in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina, where longer-season genetics are preferred for managing drought stress while maintaining superior fiber quality.
According to Corteva, both varieties demonstrated exceptional consistency across multiple soil types and production systems, simplifying in-season crop management while helping stabilize farm-level productivity.
Performance data from university trials further reinforces their commercial potential. In 2025 Official Variety Trials, PHY 362 W3FE outperformed competing commercial varieties by 144 pounds per acre across the Cotton Belt and ranked first in Mississippi State University trials, exceeding a leading competitive variety by 100 pounds per acre. Meanwhile, PHY 491 W3FE topped the University of Georgia's irrigated trial at Attapulgus with yields of 2,434 pounds per acre, outperforming the highest-ranked competing variety by 194 pounds per acre.
Complementing these broadly adapted varieties is PHY 207 W3FE, developed specifically for the challenging agronomic conditions of the High Plains. The early-maturity variety is engineered to withstand drought, storms and shorter growing seasons while delivering strong performance in both dryland and irrigated production systems across Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
In High Plains evaluations, PHY 207 W3FE recorded a 48-pound-per-acre yield advantage over a competing commercial variety across 24 field trials, highlighting its potential to improve productivity in one of the country's most demanding cotton-growing environments.
All three varieties were planted during the 2026 season through the PhytoGen Horizon Network, allowing growers to evaluate performance under commercial farming conditions before the varieties become widely available in 2027.
The expanded portfolio reflects Corteva's continued investment in cotton genetics as growers increasingly prioritize varieties capable of combining yield stability, premium fiber characteristics and disease resistance. By strengthening its next-generation PhytoGen lineup, the company aims to provide producers with greater flexibility to manage climate variability while improving long-term farm profitability.
