An expert committee has prepared the National Agricultural Policy.
Sri Lanka’s draft of the first National Agricultural Policy has been completed. The draft will be presented in Parliament soon, according to the local media. The policy draft will be submitted to the Parliament for approval and after approval new agricultural law will be implemented.
Due to the lack of national policy Sri Lanka’s Agri sector is in a tragic situation. Previously the country was self-sufficient in rice but now the situation has changed. Lanka spent $400 million on importing rice last year. Implementing a new agricultural policy is necessary for Sri Lanka.
An expert committee has prepared the National Agricultural Policy. Agricultural experts, professors, agriculture director generals, and secretaries were included in the committee. Agriculture Minister Amaraweera formed the committee.
