Launches a document “100 startups with a track record of cooperating with governments” to register startups track records and to promote public procurement
Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) produced “100 startups with a track record of cooperating with governments” to promote collaboration between startups and national governments and regional governments. The document provides examples of companies that have a track record of cooperating with governments. Bringing startups and the government together will nurture startups and improve the government’s ability to solve problems. By improving the recognition of startups in the government and local governments and sharing knowledge on collaboration, METI has released a document to promote public procurement for startups.
Aligned with the program and to promote collaboration between startups and governments/local governments, METI will post case studies and interviews with local government officials. METI will focus on companies with a track record of collaboration with governments.
Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries are major focuses of this initiative along with other major sectors like Medical care, Education, Environment, Tourism, and entrepreneurship.
For national government and regional government officials, METI has compiled useful information about collaborating with startups, such as the definition of startups, the benefits of collaboration, how to select startup companies, and how the government promotes startups.
Startups are key players that embody the concept of “new capitalism” that transforms social issues into engines of growth and achieves sustainable economic growth. The Japanese government has formulated the “Startup Development Five-Year Plan” and strengthened startup support believing that public procurement is imperative for nurturing startups.
According to METI, governments need to function as clients to start-ups through public procurement and promote businesses and create a positive impact on subsequent business development. By promoting collaboration between startups and the government, METI aims to nurture startups and to improve the problem-solving capacity of the government.
Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) ascertains that collaboration with startups not only leads to the resolution of social and regional issues, which is the policy goal of governments and local governments but also leads to the improvement of administrative services.
