Kioxia Group announced that it intends to reduce Scope 1 GHG emissions (i.e. direct emissions from business sites) and Scope 2 GHG emissions (i.e. net zero emissions in terms of emissions from purchased energy. Therefore, Kioxia Group will accelerate its work on climate change as one of its main management objectives. Previously, Kioxia Group had set a target of 100% renewable energy adoption by fiscal year 2040. Now, in order to make the net zero goal more comprehensive and cover greenhouse gas emissions from various business activities, the company is setting new targets for direct emissions indicators of business sites.
We will continue to work hard to achieve our goals. Since 2011, all manufacturing facilities built by the company have installed equipment to eliminate the emission of perfluorocarbons, which are very likely to cause global warming. In terms of energy procurement, we will continue to install energy-efficient manufacturing and power equipment. Since fiscal 2022, we have been installing solar power generation systems at our factories in Kitakami and Yokkaichi, the largest among all semiconductor factories in Japan¹, and have started purchasing electricity generated by these on-site systems under the power purchase agreement² model. We are also further purchasing FIT non-fossil energy certificates, which are renewable energy certificates commonly used in Japan.
