The project aims to strengthen fisheries industry management and increase product value through smart infrastructure upgrades
On May 28, in Vietnam’s Hanoi, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien had a reception and working session with Mona Sur, Director of the Environment, Resources and Marine Economy sector of the World Bank (WB).
In 2023, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 592/QD-TTg approving the investment policy of the Sustainable Fisheries Development Project, borrowing from the WB. The project aims to strengthen fisheries industry management and increase product value through smart infrastructure upgrades. The Sustainable Fisheries Development Project was assigned by the Prime Minister to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside, deploy and implement in 6 provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang. The overall goal of the Project is to strengthen management of the fisheries industry and increase product value through upgrading smart infrastructure.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said: The fisheries industry plays a very important role in Vietnam, with a large proportion in the agricultural sector. However, the fisheries industry infrastructure is still backward. . The Sustainable Fisheries Development Project can lay a solid foundation for the entire industry’s infrastructure in the future.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien thanked Ms. Mona Sur for her practical support to the agricultural sector in general and the fisheries sector in particular.
According to the Agricultural Project Management Board, the work of preparing a feasibility study report (F/S) for the entire Sustainable Fisheries Development Project and for 07/07 sub-projects has been completed. The Management Board of Agricultural Projects has sent the People’s Committees of 6 provinces participating in the project to comment on the scale of the subproject.
According to Mona Sur, the fisheries industry is an extremely important industry for Vietnam. The WB is always committed to developing the fisheries industry. The WB wants to ensure progress in approving the Sustainable Fisheries Development Project. Mona Sur expressed confidence that the two sides will agree to achieve the goals set for the project’s progress.
