Leaders from Industry, Government and Academia Unite to Enter the Zero Carbon Era
The 3rd Taiwan International Summit has witnessed the pledging of Taiwan’s leaders from Industry, Government and Academia Unite to to find solutions to put Taiwan on the zero carbon path. Taiwan is determined to accelerate the Transition to Net Zero Carbon Era, iterated President Tsai Ing-wen.
According to Jason Huang, Stantec Consulting Services’ country manager in Taiwan, urban water projects must be resilient and sustainable if they are to succeed. Among the initiatives he presented were the development of a circular system, water harvesting, coexistence with water, maintaining water security in food production, implementing smart technology solutions to water challenges, and facilitating everyone’s access to water.
Tao Zhu Yin Yuan (or Agora Garden) is Taiwan’s most famous eco-friendly building. With a 246% vegetation cover, the project can absorb up to 130 tonnes of carbon per year and irrigate the surrounding trees with excess rainfall, making it a low-carbon building.
The Taiwanese operator’s chief financial officer, Vincent YS Chen, explained Chunghwa Telecom’s goals: halving carbon emissions by 2030, switching to 100% renewable energy by 2040, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
