Bilateral cooperation to enhance trade in agriculture and fishery products for commodities such as pineapples, mangoes, avocados, mangosteen, durian, buko juice, and tuna.
Agnes Catherine Miranda, Undersecretary for Administration and Finance at the Philippines Department of Agriculture (DA) interacted in a formal discussion with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Mohamed Alqataam Alzaabi at the UAE Embassy in Taguig City, Philippines.
Coordination and collaboration between the two countries to strengthen agriculture and fisheries trade were discussed by the officials. UAE Ambassador and Undersecretary Miranda were joined by UAE First Secretary Obaid Alshehi, DA-International Affairs Division Assistant Chief Leah Samson, and DA-Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division Section Chief Jo Ann Grace Pera.
Undersecretary Miranda expressed the Philippines’ interest in expanding its exports of agriculture and fishery products, particularly high-value crops, which form part of the agri-fisheries sector’s priority. The Department of Agriculture (DA) is ensuring that initiatives are implemented that will contribute to the development of the Philippine agriculture sector.
Emphasizing the extensive UAE trade market and strategic location in the Middle East, the UAE Ambassador highlighted the importance of increasing bilateral trade in agriculture and fishery products, especially for commodities such as pineapples, mangoes, avocados, mangosteen, durian, buko juice, and tuna. The Ambassador offered to connect DA’s suppliers to big supermarket chains in the UAE such as Lulu and Carrefour.
Furthermore, Dubai will host COP 28 in November-December 2023.
