BioWorks, Inc. has introduced two new plant health products—BioNex insecticide and Hoplite moss killer—aimed at strengthening its integrated pest management (IPM) offerings for greenhouse, nursery, and controlled-environment growers.
BioNex is a broad-spectrum contact insecticide and miticide formulated with pyrethrins and canola oil, designed to deliver rapid knockdown of key crop pests across all life stages, including eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Hoplite, meanwhile, is a selective herbicide based on potassium salts of fatty acids, targeting moss, liverwort, algae, and lichens with fast visible action.
“Adding BioNex and Hoplite to the BioWorks portfolio significantly expands the range of high-performance, sustainable solutions we can deliver to growers,” said Chris Rose, General Manager at BioWorks. “Our focus is on equipping them with a complete, integrated toolkit that addresses today’s production challenges while supporting long-term crop health and operational success.”
BioNex acts by disrupting insect nervous systems, while its oil-based formulation enhances coverage and contact activity. It is labeled for use in greenhouses, shadehouses, nurseries, hoophouses, and container-grown crops, targeting pests such as aphids, thrips, mites, whiteflies, leafhoppers, and scale insects.
In trial data provided by the company, BioNex achieved up to 98 per cent control of cotton aphids on hibiscus within one day, compared with 78 per cent for a competitive product. It also delivered 97 per cent control of two-spotted spider mites in greenhouse green beans within two days.
Hoplite works at the cellular level, causing membrane disruption and rapid desiccation of target organisms, leading to visible yellowing and browning shortly after application. It is intended for use in controlled-environment agriculture, including greenhouses and nurseries.
In trials, Hoplite achieved 97.5 per cent control of moss within five days, outperforming a competitive product at 80 per cent, and showed a 53 per cent improvement in silvery thread moss control in bentgrass greens.
The launch reflects BioWorks’ continued focus on expanding biological and sustainable crop protection tools for commercial growers.
