Approves AVAC LSD Live vaccine at affordable prices to prevent skin rash on buffaloes and cows
Vietnam’s Department of Animal Health has approved AVAC LSD Live vaccine to prevent skin rash on buffaloes and cows. AVAC LSD Live vaccine is manufactured by AVAC Company. This is the first “Made in Vietnam” vaccine.
Affirming the domestic vaccine brand, this might help Vietnam aiming to produce its own vaccines and move towards smart and autonomous agriculture. As a freeze-dried attenuated vaccine, with a shelf life of 24 months, the vaccine will help farmers to tackle dermatomyositis in cattles. Vaccine is in accordance with GMP-WHO standards.
Farming accounts for 26.7% of the total agricultural value in Vietnam, along with seeds, feed, nutrition, and veterinary medicine. Recent statistics by the Vietnam’s Department of Animal Health shows that there have been 950 outbreaks of dermatomyositis in 917 communes in 151 districts of 25 provinces. The total number of infected cattle is more than 20,400 heads. The number of cattle culled was more than 1,500 heads.
The disease has an incidence rate of up to 90% and is highly contagious. The route of transmission is mainly through insect bites such as Aedes and Culex mosquitoes, biting flies, and ticks. The disease can be transmitted by direct contact, contaminated food and water, sharing needles, sex, through milk or from sore nipples.
