Australia Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Murray Watt officially launched Australia’s first National Soil Action Plan to address priorities in soil health and ensure long-term soil security. The National Soil Action Plan 2023-28 is the first five-year plan under the 20-year National Soil Strategy, released in 2021, and sets out four priority actions to guide partner activities and investments in soil. Selgron, a reference in technology for industrial automation and one of the main Brazilian brands that develops automation solutions for agribusiness, has just launched the ES Selector. With an artificial intelligence system that automates grain separation, the machine is aimed at the product selection process and can be applied in rice, coffee, soybean, chestnut, hominy and similar production industries. NexPoint, a multi-billion-dollar alternative investment firm, today announced its investment of $2M in the early growth funding round of PlantSwitch, a bioplastics manufacturing company with a carbon negative production process that upcycles agricultural waste to produce biodegradable and compostable resins for single-use products. The investment is part of a total $7.7M raise in this early fundraise round, to which other institutional investors, along with NexPoint, subscribed. PlantSwitch has also recently received a $4.94M federal grant from the department of agriculture. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. called for the amendment of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) charter to expand its function to include developing and managing marine and agro-industrial estates across the country to ensure ample food supply.
