GRDC injects $1 million into the Wagga Wagga Agricultural Research Facility (WWARF) to support capacity-building for the Australian grains research sector
On Feb 14, Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute, located in New South Wales opened a new facility ‘The Wagga Wagga Agricultural Research Facility (WWARF)’ strengthening the partnership among Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) under Grains Agronomy and Pathology Partnership (GAPP).
GRDC has invested $1 million into the WWARF to support capacity-building for the Australian grains research sector. The facility specializes in R&D associated with plant breeding, soil science, and crop nutrition. The state-of-the-art technology faculty to improve accuracy and reliability of data and the faster delivery of research results.
The new facility features innovative light and temperature-controlled growth rooms, a biosecurity chamber, advanced cold-storage solutions, pulse and cereal preparation stations, technical facilities, and laboratories.
The facility was inaugurated by NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) director general Scott Hansen and Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) managing director Nigel Hart.
“Investment in the WWARF was critical to ensure researchers had the essential infrastructure and technology to deliver high-quality research to support Australian grain growers. This facility in Wagga Wagga will improve protection of valuable germplasm and increase ability to process a greater number of samples.” added GRDC managing director Nigel Hart.
