The MOU reaffirms Singapore’s and Qatar’s shared commitment to facilitating stable and resilient LNG procurement and supply chains for energy security,
Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling and Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy Saad Bin Sherida Al Kaabi have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Low-carbon Technology Collaboration at the sidelines of President Halimah Yacob’s State Visit to Qatar.
The signing of the MOU was witnessed by President Halimah and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani.
Natural gas is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel and will continue to be an important fuel for many countries, including Singapore, even as low-carbon alternatives are being developed for large-scale deployment. Governments should work together to continue strengthening LNG supply chains while collaborating on low-carbon technologies to achieve their decarbonisation objectives.
The MOU reaffirms Singapore’s and Qatar’s shared commitment to facilitating stable and resilient LNG procurement and supply chains for energy security, and acknowledges that carbon capture and storage (CCS) can be a key contributor to clean, secure, and affordable energy. Areas of cooperation under the MOU include strengthening long-term LNG supply chains between Qatar and Singapore, promotion of knowledge exchange and technical cooperation on LNG, and exploration of collaboration opportunities in CCS.
Minister of State Low said, “I am pleased to have signed the MOU on Liquefied Natural Gas and Low-carbon Technology cooperation with Qatar today. As a small state with limited natural energy resources, deepening the collaboration and engagement with key energy partners such as Qatar will strengthen our own energy resilience and security. We look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of our economies and people”.
