The new market access supports the horticultural sector in meeting their target of becoming a $20 billion sector by 2030
A new shipment of Hass avocados from Western Australia has arrived in Thailand. Following an agreement signed earlier this year between the two countries to export avocados through a new market access deal, two shipments of nearly six tonnes of avocados arrived in Thailand this week.
Australian avocado growers have wanted to export to Thailand for a number of years, and this signed agreement is a great step forward in our trading relationship.
The new market access supports the horticultural sector in meeting their target of becoming a $20 billion sector by 2030 and the broader agricultural industry to grow to be a $100 billion sector. Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell said this will open doors for Australian exporters.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt said “this was a significant win for Australian avocado growers, with an estimated market value of approximately $10 million per year. Australian avocado growers have wanted to export to Thailand for a number of years, and this signed agreement is a great step forward in our trading relationship”.
“The avocado industry has recently experienced substantially lower prices on the domestic market due to high supply, so opening new market access and trade opportunities is helping the avocado industry maintain steady supply and pricing” said Minister Watt.
