Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) organized the Forum “Public-private partnership in developing multi-use values of forest ecosystems” and launched the “National Park Passport Initiative”.
The Forum was attended by Minister Le Minh Hoan, leaders of Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam; representatives of ministries, sectors, localities; a number of embassies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations; a number of associations, businesses; national parks and nature reserves.
According to Mr. Tran Quang Bao – Director of the Forestry Department, Vietnam has over 14.86 million hectares of forest with rich and diverse potential in forest ecosystem values. In recent years, the forestry sector has promoted the policy of “socializing the forestry profession” through many mechanisms and policies.
Specifically, in the viewpoint of the Vietnam Forestry Development Strategy for the period 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2050, it is clearly stated: “there are appropriate mechanisms and policies to support, facilitate and encourage organizations and individuals of all economic sectors to participate in forestry development investment”.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to amend policies to attract social capital, especially large enterprises and corporations to participate in investment, business and development of forest ecosystems. At the same time, attract the participation of the private sector and stakeholders in developing multi-use values of forest ecosystems to contribute to improving the effectiveness of sustainable forest management, associated with promoting cultural traditions, indigenous knowledge and improving livelihoods for local communities.
At the forum, the Forestry Department and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Company Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding to realize those policies and viewpoints. Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has become one of the strategic partners with the Forestry industry in sustainable forest development, aiming at water conservation and carbon neutrality.
