The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has allocated $165 million to the second phase of the Singapore Food Story (SFS) R&D programme, known as SFS 2.0. The programme was launched to support research projects in agriculture, aquaculture, future foods and the food safety domain. According to SFA’s statement, the second phase will emphasis addressing food security challenges, which include intensifying sustainability and circularity for Singapore’s climate change commitments and enhancing food safety amidst the emergence of novel food. Taiwan Agricultural Chemical and Toxic Substance Research Institute has developed a toxin-free biopesticide which can protect crops from intractable pests. For the last 18 years, researchers are working on biopesticide, which is based on photorhabdus luminescence, a bacterial insect pathogen. Taiwan is the first country to mass produce this product. According to the statement, the biopesticide has been proven to have excellent ovicidal activity against hard-to-control pests such as spider mites, which are often found in papaya, other fruit trees and flowering plants. China’s agrochemical company Maxunitech has acquired the majority shares of Inner Mongolia Shijie Chemical with its own funds to control this company. Inner Mongolia, Shijie is a manufacturing enterprise integrating the research, development, production and sales of pesticides and fine chemicals. Shijie also has production lines of Sulfentrazone, Flumioxazin and several chemical intermediates. Cambodia’s Cashew Federation (CCF) necessarily boost the export of cashews above $1 billion every year. CCF has decided on the target according to Cambodia’s National Policy in Cashew Nuts for 2022-2027. The newly launched CCF looks after investments, processing and export of raw cashew nuts. Cambodia exported 449,325 tons of rice to international markets in the first nine months of this year, up by 10 per cent over the same period last year, according to the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).The Southeast Asian nation made nearly $287 million in revenue from the exports of milled rice from January to September this year, the CRF said. Indo-Israel Agriculture Project (IIAP) establishing proposed Centres of Excellence (CoE) in Jammu and Kashmir. Under the Agriculture Attache MASHAV (Israel’s agency for international Development Cooperation) at the Embassy of Israel in India, centres are going to develop, via the establishment of Centres of Excellence IIAP aims to introduce crop diversity, increase productivity and optimise water use efficiency. The Philippines Government approved the commercial cultivation of the borer-resistant Bt Eggplant in the Philippines. The Philippines is the second country after Bangladesh to be approved for the cultivation of Bt Eggplant. This regulatory approval came after strict and comprehensive biosafety evaluations conducted by the Joint Assessment Group comprised of representatives from Competent National Authorities-Biosafety Committees, and the certification of the Event EE-1 as a Plant Incorporated Protectant (Group 11A Insecticide) by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority. China’s agriculture products maintained steady growth momentum in foreign trade in the first three quarters of this year. The trade volume of the country’s agriculture products totalled $248.51 billion in the first nine months of 2022, up 10.4 per cent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
