Aboitiz Foods and Grab signal deeper commitments to sustainable food systems, digital innovation and low-carbon development
Philippine agribusiness major Aboitiz Foods and Southeast Asian technology platform Grab have signalled plans to significantly expand their engagement in Vietnam, reinforcing the country’s position as a key destination for investments linked to sustainable agriculture, energy transition, digital transformation and smart urban development.
The investment intent was highlighted during separate high-level engagements between Vietnam’s top leadership and senior executives from both companies during an official state visit to the Philippines, underscoring the growing economic depth of the Vietnam–Philippines Strategic Partnership.
For Aboitiz Foods, the discussions centred on strengthening cooperation across green agriculture, sustainable food production, food traceability, supply-chain resilience and regional food security. The company also expressed interest in exploring opportunities across renewable energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, industrial development and agribusiness innovation.
Vietnam’s leadership emphasised the importance of investments that support low-carbon growth pathways and resilient food systems, while encouraging collaboration in smart agriculture, food safety and sustainable value chains capable of enhancing long-term agricultural competitiveness.
Aboitiz Foods indicated that future investments would increasingly align with environmental sustainability objectives and high food-safety standards, while supporting Vietnam’s broader economic modernisation agenda.
The company already maintains a substantial footprint in Vietnam’s animal nutrition sector through its Gold Coin and Pilmico businesses. Its recently commissioned feed manufacturing facility in Long An Province added significant production capability, taking the company’s total feed manufacturing capacity in Vietnam to approximately 1.1 million tonnes annually and further consolidating its position in the country’s livestock value chain.
In parallel, technology platform Grab reaffirmed Vietnam’s strategic importance within its regional growth portfolio and outlined plans to deepen participation in the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
Discussions focused on opportunities spanning smart city development, intelligent transportation systems, digital payments, urban mobility solutions and technology-enabled public services. The company also highlighted its commitment to supporting digital inclusion, workforce capability development and technology adoption across businesses and communities.
Vietnam’s leadership encouraged greater collaboration in green mobility infrastructure, smart transportation ecosystems and digital skills development, while also exploring opportunities to leverage digital platforms for tourism and cultural promotion.
Grab indicated that future initiatives could include multimodal transportation integration, support for environmentally sustainable mobility solutions and pilot programmes involving emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles and robotic delivery systems.
The company further reiterated its commitment to advancing digital transformation efforts through technology-enabled learning platforms and innovation-driven public services.
The expanded interest from both Aboitiz Foods and Grab reflects a broader regional shift towards investments that combine economic growth with sustainability, climate resilience and technological innovation. As Vietnam accelerates its transition towards a greener and more digitally connected economy, strategic partnerships with leading regional enterprises are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the country’s next phase of development.
