Genetically modified algae to synthesize bio-pharmaceutical and nutraceutical antioxidants
AzCATI and KAUST collaborative research develop genetically engineered algae to produce orange-red pigments that make sea food healthier Researcher’s at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have collaborated with the US based Arizona Center for Algae Technology & Innovation (AzCATI) at Arizona State University (ASU) are genetically engineering algal species to produce therapeutic antioxidant pigments unavailable naturally in nature. An Collaboration between AzCATI and KAUST aims to develop an orange-red antioxidant pigment from fully sequenced algae Cyanidioschyzon merolae incorporated with a gene encoding the pigment. These antioxidants are chemicals called carotenoids, which are yellow-orange-red pigments responsible…

World’s largest on-farm livestock waste biodigesters installed in Indiana, the U.S
On-farm Renewable Natural Gas facility expands with novel DVO biodigester technology that can effectively turns livestock waste into renewable fuel and electricity. One of the world’s largest on-farm biodigesters was recently unveiled in Reynolds, Indiana. DVO technology powers the core of the facility. The site in is operated by BioTown BioGas LLC. DVO digesters process more agricultural waste than any other biogas company globally. It has installed more than 170 digesters on livestock and poultry facilities in the U.S. to process animal waste and convert it to valuable products. Its Two-Stage Linear Vortex™ digester is a patented, engineered system designed…
The findings suggest that hybrid breeding in wheat and barley can be facilitated by enhancing cross-pollination and boosting fertility, leading to an increase in grain yield. Researchers at Australia’s University of Adelaide’s Waite Research Institute have for the first time identified several genes in barley that could eventually lead to larger yielding crops. Research team employed genetic techniques and molecular biology to examine several historical multi ovary barley mutants. The discovery may lead to the identification of genes that boost fertility and enhance cross-pollination. It could pave the way for enhanced food security and a more sustainable agricultural future “Although…
