Square Roots Japan Co., Ltd. is set to open its first state-of-the-art modular indoor farm, “Agri Tech Lab Tokyo,” in January 2026, transforming part of a warehouse under the JR Keiyo Line near Shinkiba Station into a hub for agricultural innovation.
The cutting-edge facility will merge Japan’s rich agricultural heritage with advanced technology to address pressing global and domestic challenges, including climate-driven supply risks, food crises, aging farmers, labor shortages, and declining food self-sufficiency. Agri Tech Lab Tokyo aims to pioneer a sustainable agricultural model for future generations.
“Agri Tech Lab Tokyo” will tackle global issues such as supply risks from droughts and floods caused by global warming and food crises due to resource constraints, as well as structural issues in Japan such as the aging of agricultural workers, lack of successors, and declining food self-sufficiency, and will establish a sustainable agricultural model for the next generation. Agri Tech Lab Tokyo is a base for experimentation and creation that combines the culture that Japan has built up in agriculture with cutting-edge technology and implements it in cities and society.
