Reorganize its U.S. Group Companies Valent BioSciences, MGK, and Valent North America in the Agro & Life Solutions Sector
Sumitomo Chemical is set to implement a reorganization of the Group aimed at further strengthening and growing its biorationals* business. Valent BioSciences LLC (“VBS”), McLaughlin Gormley King Company (“MGK”), and Valent North America LLC (“VNA”)—Sumitomo Chemical’s U.S. subsidiaries— will be integrated into the surviving company VBS, which will be renamed Sumitomo Biorational Company LLC (“SBC”). SBC will commence operations in Libertyville, Illinois, starting April 2026, as the Group’s global hub driving innovation in this field, and it will provide comprehensive and sustainable biorational solutions across the world.
Sumitomo Chemical’s Agro & Life Solutions Sector operates with crop protection chemicals and biorationals as its two pillars of business. The biorationals market is expected to continue to expand as demand is growing among producers and consumers for products that have a lower environmental impact. By further enhancing its product portfolio and stepping up sales efforts, the Company aims to drive its biorationals sales to approximately 150 billion yen by fiscal 2030, more than double from fiscal 2024.
Under these circumstances, Sumitomo Chemical has decided to establish SBC as its Global Center of Excellence for Biorational Innovation. It will integrate all the functions, including research, manufacturing, and sales, of the biorationals business that have been carried out by several individual Group companies into one entity, SBC, to build a lean and efficient business operation structure that takes full advantage of the strengths of its world-leading biorationals business.
Going forward, SBC will become the global hub for this business and work to create new value that will contribute to society’s sustainable development and living in harmony with the environment in a wide range of fields, from agriculture to public health, forest health, pest control, and animal health.
Through this reorganization, the Sumitomo Chemical Group will strive to develop its biorationals business and introduce innovative and sustainable agricultural and environmental health technologies.
In addition, Valent USA LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of VNA, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of SBC and will continue to be responsible for the development, sales, and marketing of crop protection products in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In the Agro & Life Solutions Sector, the Sumitomo Chemical Group aims to advance regenerative agriculture and help achieve a sustainable society by delivering unique products and solutions to global markets. As a global leader in the biorationals business, the Group will further strengthen its industry-leading technological and service capabilities to contribute to solving social issues such as improving agricultural productivity and enhancing environmental health.
